Maitreya, the World Teacher, has been based in the Asian community of London since July 1977, gradually emerging into full public view.

Artist, author and lecturer Benjamin Creme has for over 35 years been preparing the way for this extraordinary event.

In December 2008 Benjamin Creme announced that in the very near future a large, bright star would appear in the sky visible throughout the world, night and day, heralding the imminent appearance of Maitreya in His first interview on a major US television programme.

Within weeks reports from all over the world of an unusually bright star, often moving and changing colour, began to appear in the media and on YouTube.

On 14 January 2010 Benjamin Creme announced that Maitreya had given His first interview, on American television, and that millions had heard Him speak both on television and the internet.

Benjamin Creme explained: He was introduced not as Maitreya, the World Teacher and Head of our Spiritual Hierarchy, but simply as a man, one of us. In this way He 'ensures that men follow and support Him for the truth and sanity of His ideas rather than for His status'. He spoke earnestly of the need for peace, achievable only through the creation of justice and the sharing of the world’s resources.

  Maitreya has given four television interviews since Share International's December 2011 issue... that makes 52 in total since the interviews started: 29 in USA, 14 in Mexico and 9 in Brazil, and more are expected to take place in the Americas, Japan, Europe and the rest of the world. Maitreya's open mission has begun.
  The people's response to His ideas varies. For the poorer people His message is heart-warming and eagerly accepted. For some of the more affluent the ideas seem almost old-fashioned and irrelevant.

  According to Benjamin Creme the most important work that the World Teacher is currently carrying out is the awakening of the spiritual nature of humanity to manifest and so to change the world for the better.

  When asked if he has seen the interviews of Maitreya, he answered: I have not seen them... I never look for any of the interviews on the internet... It make no sense to search for Maitreya's television interviews on YouTube... Maitreya is incognito deliberately. He does not wish to be recognized as 'Maitreya'. He is only interested in whether you want for the world what He is advocating – sharing, justice and peace are His priorities. Make them yours (if they are not already) and bring Maitreya closer to you.
  When asked how close are we to the Day of Declaration, he answered: Probably only Maitreya knows accurately the date of the Day of Declaration. It does not have a set time but depends on humanity’s reaction to the various stimuli from Hierarchy. But I think it will occur sooner than most people would imagine.

  Maitreya has given 29 interviews in USA and 7 in Mexico... The response to Maitreya's ideas between the USA and Mexico viewers is obviously different... In any case I am sure their response is more immediate and heart-felt than in the USA. Also, and this I can reveal for the first time, the television arrangements are different. In the USA, Maitreya appeared 29 times but never alone, always as one of a 'panel' of spokesmen with different points of view. In Mexico the interviews are one to one. Thus Maitreya has made a 'quiet' beginning and probably will be much more forthright from now on

Remember that Maitreya is 'incognito', unannounced as the World Teacher. Also, His approach is deliberately quiet in the first place, in order not to frighten off the very people He is trying to help.
